Our scope of work included removal and replacement of the old bridge on Blessington Road between Forsythe Road and Bethany Road in the city of Belleville, ON. The activities included the removal of all the old asphalt on the bridge, removal of the concrete deck and parapet walls, removal of the old concrete footings plus removal of the old steel guardrails. The small stream underneath the bridge had to be protected and adequate dewatering measures were implemented.
Once the demolition and removal activities were completed, we began excavation for placing the new concrete footings with the dewatering measures still in place. Once the excavation was completed and the subbase was prepped, we installed the new concrete footings on both sides of the water stream. The rigid frame culvert was placed on top of the new footings. Soon after we began the backfill activities followed by the installed of the MSE retaining walls. Parallely, we concentrated on reinstating the concrete deck and the parapet walls. This was followed by the waterproofing of the concrete deck and preparation of the subbase for the asphalt paving on top of the new deck and the approach areas.
The Bridge deck and the approach was paved with the one base coat and topcoat of Asphalt. We finished all the granular preparation on the sides of the new road. The final activity was installation of the guardrails on both sides of the bridge followed a private entrance treatment for the property nearby.
